Jim Wilson
Director of Training 636
It is the mission of the Pipefitting Industry Training Center and its Joint Apprentice Training Committee and staff to meet the educational needs of the members of Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service Local Union 636, of the United Association and the contractors who employ us. This is to be achieved by the diligent instruction of the apprentices assigned to our care, those members who have been organized from the non-represented sector of our industry, and the journeymen members who need upgrading of their specialized skills, as our industry demands.
"We train the best to stay the best"
Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service
Union Pipefitters bring so much to the job in southeast Michigan.
Pipefitting is one of the premier construction trades. Through its outstanding training programs, the industry consistently draws the most talented, highly motivated, and ambitious candidates for apprenticeship.
Thanks to the spirit of working together that pervades our industry, these newcomers begin their training in programs and schools co-sponsored by Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Local 636 and its affiliate contractor associations: The Metropolitan Detroit Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association (MDPMCA) and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA).
Every apprentice in the trade is committed to a 5-year program- classroom and on-the-job experience, working side-by-side with a pipefitter journeyman.
Apprentices become certified in welding, CFC removal, valve repair, safety and more-all through nationally recognized and accepted certification programs administered by the United Association of Journeymen, Plumbers and Pipefitters.
